Global Hunger & The FeelGood Story
200 Points
Ends Oct 01, 2010Individual Challenge: In this week’s Journey you began talking about the impact of allowing nearly 1 billion of our brothers and sisters suffer from chronic and persistent hunger. In words, pictures or music, share how global hunger impacts us all, and why we should all care.

World Hunger
It is depressing to learn about how many people die each day of chronic hunger.
And the more depressing fact is that we have more than enough food to feed everyone in the world, but the distribution of food throughout the world does not allow it. If people in economically strong countries care and help a little more, we can definitely make a change.
It is not a matter of how much food we have in the world. It's a matter of how much people are aware of world hunger. Like the following video says, we need to be aware of the sisters and brothers that are dying of chronic hunger.

We are able to end hunger if we are just a little more aware, just a little more selfless, and just a little more willing to help :)
Humanity's Hierarchy of Needs
I think it is helpful to look at hunger within the context of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. (And I took the liberty of making a graphic to represent that. Haha.) While Maslow intended for the schematic to show the needs of an individual, I think it is applicable to humanity, as well. In order for a united (self-actualized) world, all members of humanity must have their physiological, safety, love & belonging, and esteem needs met. It is unfortunate, that in 2010, we are still stuck on one of the most basic physiological needs: food. * 1 BILLION people, because they lack a voice, do not have enough food to remain alive. * The other 6 billion of us can no longer ignore our brothers and sisters in chronic, persistent hunger. It is our responsibility to empower the hungry and invest in our own humanity! Only then will we truly be on the path towards a self-actualized world.
