Everyday we engage in conversation. We talk to people at work, classmates, friends and family. Have you ever stopped to think about where these conversations get us in life?

Sometimes I stop and think about the pivotal moments that have gotten me to where I am today. How did I get into graduate school? Oh yeah, I talked with my dad and some of my sisters, which led me to research and eventually I set up an appointment with an advisor at the abilities and disabilities department at the University of Southern Maine. Now normally I just would have applied but I am so thankful I went one step beyond my comfort zone and made an appointment, which got me a recommendation and landed me a spot in the program.

Then I usually think wow I am so lucky because if I had not gotten into graduate school to study special education, would I have my job as a one-on-one aid at a local non-profit pre-school? The answer is maybe, because I also found out about this job through my pervious service with AmeriCorps VISTA at United Way. When I first started my job I was very reserved and afraid to speak to my colleagues, but through my experience with FeelGood I knew I had to interact with others if I wanted to truly get involved. At United Way I was taught a very valuable lesson. Networking. Talk to everyone and anyone because you will never know where it will take you.

Everyday we engage in conversation, but have you ever attempted to follow the path those conversations took you down. In FeelGood you have the unique opportunity to engage in conversation with every person that approaches your kiosk. What a pivotal moment for so many people’s lives. Did your conversation with the customer motivate them to join FeelGood? Did it inspire them to pursue their own dreams? Did that conversation make it possible for a hungry person to end their own hunger? Did it also provide you and other students an opportunity to connect with humanity and become a changemaker?

One day I was a college student looking for something meaningful to be a part of. I talked to my friend and asked her to try joining something with me. We came across FeelGood and engaged in a conversation with Leah Grossman and Taryn Ross and decided to join. If I hadn’t stopped to ask, “What is FeelGood?” and, “Should I join?” would I be where I am today? The answer to that is absolutely not.

So the next time your bored or dazing off in class, ask yourself, where have my conversations taken me? More specifically, how many powerful conversations has FeelGood allowed me to be a part of?
