Ending Hunger
Ending Hunger
Given the statistics of extreme poverty and hunger, it's hard to feel good about the world today. There are 1.2 billion people living on less than $1/day. 1 billion of whom are chronically hungry. In essence, hunger is the most extreme form of poverty, where individuals or families cannot afford to meet their most basic need for food. Every 6 seconds—EVERY 6 SECONDS—our human family loses a child under the age of 5 to hunger. And every night that we go to sleep, warm and safe, 30,000 people go to bed hungry and sick, never to wake again.
Many people have resigned themselves to these overwhelming statistics, and have accepted poverty as a part of our existence. But FeelGood believes, and experts agree, that extreme poverty and hunger can be ended in our lifetime. It's been proven that we have the ability, resources, money and solutions to completely rid our world of hunger; all we have to do is choose to end it by diligently investing in empowerment-based, gender-focused models of development. FeelGood is inspiring our generation to own the responsibility of ending hunger...to powerfully engage in the end of hunger in a way that feels good.
Is there a more important cause? Not in our minds and hearts.
Achieving the sustainable end of hunger means nothing less than creating a new future for all humanity, a future where:
- Every day, every person has enough of the right food to be healthy and productive.
- Babies are born healthy and strong, and girl babies are prized as much as boy babies.
- Children stay alive, so parents can have smaller families.
- Women and girls are full partners in society.
- People have control over their own lives and destinies, and all individuals have a chance to contribute.
- The values of honoring human beings and nature flourish.
