Frequently Asked Questions
The mission of FeelGood is to transform students into skilled, life-long social entrepreneurs—“changemakers” who are ready to respond to the world’s most pressing issues in innovative, strategic and compassionate ways. And we do it one grilled cheese at a time. Learn more.
FeelGood has grown since 2005 through word of mouth! This fall we begin the year with 21 University Chapters. Check them out here.
FeelGood was born out of a profound desire to end world hunger in our lifetime. We partner with organizations sustainably and effectively ending hunger, who implement solutions and processes that empower self-reliance, value our human dignity and the potential of every human being to contribute to society. We invest 100-percent of our delis profits in these organizations. As of fall 2009, FeelGood has certified two Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) as global partners. These are The Hunger Project and CHOICE Humanitarian.
Taking or sponsoring Changemaker Actions helps eliminate global hunger in a couple of ways. First is through education. Our challenges are designed to help spread and deepen the dialog about the root causes of hunger, and the role each of us can play in its solution. Second, the cheese points students earn care cashed out as investment capital to support the growth and thrivability of FeelGood chapters and/or FeelGood educational events, generating even more awareness and financial resources to help address this critical global issue.
Right now most of our money comes from individual donors, although we have received a couple of small grants from Foundations. In the future, FeelGood will be self-sustaining through our branded products and our Challenge sponsors.
Well, easy! First, it’s sustainable because no meat goes in it. Second it’s pretty simple, and reinforces our belief that it is in the small, simple actions that we can change the world. Third, it’s nostalgic; everyone loves a grilled cheese because it reminds us of good ‘ol times growing up. And finally, because it’s unintimidating; poverty can be quite overwhelming for many of us. FeelGood wants to make our conversations and interactions with people as inviting and inspiring as possible. We think a grilled cheese is a good start!
And the answer is… YES! By request of FeelGood members and their communities, many of our chapters carry vegan cheese, vegetable-only sandwiches and PB&J! Have a grilled cheese idea?
For starters, passion, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a deep desire to help end world hunger. Oh, and it helps if you like to work with really great people, form lasting friendships, and want to help make the world a better place…for everyone. What’s more, you’ll never be alone. FeelGood supports your efforts through a very cool on-line manual, 1:1 consulting, training summer boot camps, annual leadership summits, and even investment capital that you can earn for your chapter by participating in Cheese World.
You earn Cheese Points by taking on FeelGood Changemaker Challenges. Every challenge has a specific number of points assigned to it, which you are awarded once you’ve completed the Challenge. Cheese Points are cumulative, and can be cashed in or invested in several different ways: You can invest them in a FeelGood chapter of your choice, where they will be used to support the chapter’s deli operations and ongoing education; or you can purchase FeelGood products, the proceeds of which help FeelGood sustain itself. You can also invest them in FeelGood’s national programs, such as our summer camps and annual Changemaker Summit.
Yes! Your Cheese Points are good for one year from the date they were awarded.
You can only give your Cheese Points to a FeelGood chapter, or use them to contribute to a specific FeelGood national initiative.
Like you, they care about the planet and want to help make the world a better place! It is their way to invest in our youth as changemakers and as a consequence, in the end of hunger.
Not yet! However, many FeelGood students make presentations to the high schools in their areas, so that once the high schoolers enter college, they are inspired to either join a FeelGood chapter if it already exists, or start one if it doesn’t! If you are in HS and would like to start a chapter or get involved,
