1st Steps to Setting-Up Your Chapter - finding a permanent location
READ CAREFULLY - READ CAREFULLY - READ CAREFULLY - READ CAREFULLY
While securing a permanent location at your university will allow for a kiosk, please note that achieving this is a long process. Part of this process includes establishing your reputation as a responsible, passionate, effective student organization - which means you need to start selling sandwiches and/or apparel as soon as you can.
While you are simultaneously running your Phase I operations (you may need to meet with the Dining Services just to sell from a table) you should put a team together who will work on garnering the cooperation from both the Dining Services and University. Look at the table below
And remember, everyone you speak to is going to be like ...."Wwwwwwhat?" when you share with them your vision for ending hunger at your university. But we at FeelGood are like..."every day, 20,000 people die unnecessarily to the preventable social condition of chronic persistent hunger....it's 2007, Wwwwwwwwwwhat is going on?" It is time for our generation to take on a leadership role. Let's invite our university to be a part of the movement. And if you are ever feeling shy or rejected, don't forget that YOU pay tuition!

Dining Services |
Set up an apt. with a manager. Tell them you don't want to step on their toes so you want to run your idea to sell grilled cheese to raise money for hunger by them. Try and get cooperation from the beginning and show them that you are not trying to do anything behind their backs. Get them as excited as you can. |
Skeptic about complying with health code.
Skeptic about competition.
Skeptic about cooperation with university. |
Grills don't let off steam, and you are willing to do whatever it takes to comply until you get a kiosk - (Kiosks are manufactured to comply with universal health codes)
You don't intend to be competition, rather you are an opportunity for students to give back. Remember, you are offering sandwiches for a donation.
You are an asset to the university! Examples - Middlebury, UVM, and Columbia have all gotten permission to have permanent locations. And the universities are proud of their FG students' work.

Set up an apt with someone in the presidents office. At your meeting, share with them your vision for ending hunger on campus. Remember, a FeelGood is an asset to the university. It will only strengthen the universities reputation for being a leader in civic engagement and change |

Funds for a kiosk
Insurance
Favoritism |
Tell them you are speaking with the dining services. Use the success at UVM, Middlebury, and Columbia as examples of universities who have embraced this innovative program
FeelGood World will be working with you to secure funding for the kiosk. University doesn't have to worry about it.
They can take a look at the user agreement which addresses insurance. Because you are a student organization, tell them that insurance traditionally has fallen under the university umbrella.
Tell them you will be willing to let other organizations use the kiosk when it is not in use. See the Users Agreement for guidelines. |
